This week, SIBS’ index on the “Impact of Coronavirus in Portuguese Consumption Habits” shows how online purchases have increased since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Portugal.
Between March 30th and April 5th, e-commerce purchases have grown 17 points while transactions in physical stores have registered a 6 point increase, showing consistency on consumption trends. With this growth, the current values approach the ones prior to the pre-pandemic period. It is also important to mention a considerable increase in online purchases in the following sectors: Entertainment and Culture, with a 64% growth, Food Trade, and Retail, with a 45% increase, and Restaurants, Food Delivery and Take Away with an increase of 52%.
